What is the cost?
The UW Oshkosh Alumni Association provides every alum with an e-mail account at no charge.
Why would I want a UW Oshkosh alumni e-mail account if I already have an e-mail service provider I am satisfied with?
So your college friends can find you. Your UW Oshkosh alumni e-mail account can be set up to forward all messages to another address. This means people can always e-mail you at your @alumni.uwosh.edu address, as long as you keep your forwarding e-mail address up-to-date. For example: Someone sends an e-mail to your_username@alumni.uwosh.edu. The message is forwarded immediately to you@your-ISP.com. Of course, if you decide you want to use your alumni e-mail address as your primary address, simply turn off the forwarding option.
What is e-mail forwarding?
E-mail forwarding is an option for all alumni e-mail accounts. It means messages sent to a certain e-mail address are forwarded to another address. For example: Someone sends an e-mail to your_username@alumni.uwosh.edu. The message is forwarded immediately to you@your-ISP.com. As long as you keep your forwarding e-mail address up-to-date, people can always e-mail you at your @alumni.uwosh.edu address.
How do I set up e-mail forwarding?
- If you have not yet registered for an account, you will need to visit http://alumni.uwosh.edu/ and click Request Account. After your account has been confirmed, you can proceed to the following steps to set up your UW Oshkosh alumni e-mail to automatically forward to another address:
- Log into Alumni mail at https://alumni.uwosh.edu/webmail
- Expand "Mail" in the side menu if needed
- Click on "Filters"
- Select the "Forward" button from the bar across the top
- Type the forwarding e-mail address, to which you want all UW Oshkosh alumni e-mail sent.
- Click "Save"
What if I change e-mail service providers?
If you change your e-mail service provider, you will need to update your forwarding e-mail address. You can update your forwarding e-mail address anytime by following the instructions above (How Do I Set Up E-mail Forwarding). Type in a new e-mail address you want your UW Oshkosh messages sent.
How much disk space is available?
50 megabytes.
Can I send attachments through this e-mail account?
Yes.
Is there a size limit for attachments?
Yes, 8 MB.
Who can see my personal information?
The privacy of your personal information is our top priority. Only alumni office personnel will have access to your personal information.
I am a recent or soon-to-be alum. Can I transfer messages from my Titan Mail student account to a new alumni account?
Yes, if you sign up before your Titan Mail account expires. The deadline to request your new alumni account is:
January grads: March 31
June grads: June 15
August grads: August 15
I am a recent or soon-to-be alum. Do I need to request the new alumni e-mail account by a certain date to ensure my e-mails will automatically transfer from my Titan Mail student e-mail account?
Yes, but you must request an alumni e-mail account before the Titan Mail account expires. The deadline to request your new alumni account is:
January grads: March 31
June grads: June 15
August grads: August 15
If the deadline passes, you are still eligible for an alumni e-mail account. However, you will request your account as an alum, not a student, and you will lose the option to transfer your e-mail messages from your Titan Mail (student) account to the alumni account.
How do I get a password?
After you submit your account request, a password will be randomly generated and sent as part of your confirmation message. You can then change it after you receive the confirmation.
How do I change my password?
You will be able to change the password by following these directions:
- Log into Alumni Mail at https://alumni.uwosh.edu/webmail
- Expand "Options" in the side menu if needed
- Click on "Password"
- Enter the current password and the new password
- Click "Change Password" button to change password
What if I forget my password?
You can call the Academic Computing Help Desk at (920) 424-3020 to reset your password. Be sure to identify yourself as an alum.
What will my UW Oshkosh alumni e-mail address be?
Most UW Oshkosh alumni e-mail addresses follow this format:
- the first initial of your first name
- your last name (up to eight characters), and
- the last two digits of your graduation year
- followed by @alumni.uwosh.edu
Example: jsmith06@alumni.uwosh.edu
Variance will occur when more than two alumni from any class year share the same first initial and last name.
Can I change my UW Oshkosh alumni e-mail address?
No, your UW Oshkosh alumni e-mail address cannot be changed.
I am a December graduate. Why is the grad year in my e-mail address the next calendar year?
Everyone officially graduates as of the end of the 17-week semester (14-week plus 3-week interim) Generally this is about 12 weeks after the commencement ceremony following final coursework, grades and a graduation audit. If you are eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony in December, your official graduation date falls in January of the following year.
How do I request an account?
Visit the request page at http://alumni.uwosh.edu/request.php
Can I look up other alumni e-mail addresses?
Currently our directory is not searchable. However, the Alumni Relations Office can assist you in finding friends you’ve lost touch with. E-mail alumni@uwosh.edu or call (877) UWO-ALUM.
How do I check my e-mail using the World Wide Web?
Point your browser to http://alumni.uwosh.edu/ and follow the login prompts. Reading your mail through the Web is the preferred method. Please note that your e-mail stays on the server and that you have 50 megabytes of disk space.
What happens when I exceed my 50MB of e-mail space?
When an account exceeds its limit, the user cannot send or receive e-mail.
Will I be notified when I am running short on space in my e-mail inbox?
Yes. You will be notified with a pop-up when the account reaches 90% full. There is also a visible status bar for disk utilization.
What is the maximum size message I may send?
The maximum size of any one message sent is 8MB.
When composing a long message, I lost my text, why does this happen?
Your e-mail account has a security feature that "times-out" after 60 minutes. This is to ensure security on your account and the time cannot be changed. We recommend that users compose long messages in an editor such as Microsoft Word and paste them to send.
Are there virus and spam filters on this account?
Yes. UW Oshkosh has a great interest in protecting all alumni, students, faculty and staff from e-mail viruses and spam. While no programs are able to catch every current virus, each e-mail is automatically scanned for viruses before being sent to your e-mail inbox.
